Through real-life experiences, learners explore family dynamics, language access, Deaf culture, and the personal journeys that shape Deaf identity. This workshop strengthens ASL comprehension while deepening understanding of how family and community influence identity, belonging, and cultural pride.

By the end of this course, participants will demonstrate comprehension of Deaf Identity and Family concepts by accurately recognizing key vocabulary and factual details from the narratives, selecting correct summaries and explanations of family dynamics and communication barriers, and applying Deaf identity concepts in scenario-based questions. Learners will also differentiate and compare family experiences across storytellers, evaluate how language access and family attitudes shaped identity development, and identify overarching themes that connect vocabulary, cultural values, and lived experiences across multiple narratives, as measured through a multiple-choice assessment.

Recommended for intermediate or advanced ASL learners. This course is on-demand, with ASL videos with English captions.
